Who should attend: This training is designed for licensed professional counselors, clinical supervisors, and mental health professionals who are looking to expand their practice with practical, somatic-based tools which will foster well-being for both clients and themselves. Participants will gain valuable strategies to support client care, strengthen self-regulation, and enhance their own professional resilience.

Where: Whittier Boat Harbor, Alaska - cruising through Prince William Sound

What: A boating and exploration experience in Prince William Sound Alaska, combined with a somatic awareness and skills training virtually live throughout the day.

Why: 3.5 CEU’s are available via Resilient Strategies, LLC which is approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 8019. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Resilient Strategies, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

A training by Lucy Mahan, LPC, with Resilient Strategies LLC

Counselors are trained to support the well-being of others, but sustainable clinical work requires intentional care for the clinician as well. This experiential training explores insights and professional somatic strategies that support nervous system regulation, and long-term resilience in mental health practice. Set aboard a charter boat and island destination in Prince William Sound, this intimate workshop blends continuing education, reflection, nature, and practical tools counselors can use to better care for themselves while continuing to serve clients well.

Format Options: Live Streamed / Synchronous, a portion of the presentation will be on an iPad or your iPhone. We have the ability to charge phones, please bring headphones if you prefer as well.

This coastal immersion trip in Prince William Sound is hosted by Sea Goat Adventures, on our 26' charter vessel. We will experience glaciers, wildlife, and a private beach lunch for a portion of your seminar. Glacier cruise, island exploration and interactive workshop time total experience: 6 hours on the boat and in the Sound; approved continuing education: 3.5 hours; limited to five participants

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how the limbic system processes and filters information and its role in emotional and behavioral responses.

  • Describe the concept of the Window of Tolerance and its relationship to nervous system activation and regulation.

  • Identify physiological, emotional, and behavioral indicators of hypoarousal and hyperarousal.

  • Differentiate between healthy and unhealthy strategies commonly used to regulate the nervous system.

  • Apply foundational somatic concepts and techniques to support greater self-awareness, nervous system regulation, and client care.

About the Presenter

Lucy Mahan LPC, CDCII is an experienced counselor specializing in the field of trauma, dissociation, substance abuse, life transitions, ADHD, and anxiety/depression for the past 15 years. In addition to working with her psychotherapy patients, she is also a supervisor for LPC practitioners in Alaska.

Lucy is trained in EMDR, Sensorimotor Techniques, and is a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner and a Certified Havening Techniques® Practitioner and Trainer.

Lucy and her business were ranked 16th by Seollium in Anchorage, and 34th in Alaska.

The seminar will take place live streamed. We will provide screens and a hot spot, but please bring your own device and headphones if you prefer!

Program Fees, Refunds & Cancellations

Refund Policy (per registrant)

15–29 days before: 50% refund minus $25 processing fee

7–14 days before: 25% refund minus $25 processing fee

<7 days: No refund

Transfers, No-Shows, Refunds & Concerns: Registrations may be transferred to another participant up to 24 hours before the event. A one-time transfer to a future offering may be requested if space is available and any price difference is paid. No-shows are not eligible for refund or credit. If Resilient Strategies, LLC cancels or reschedules the program, participants may choose a full refund or transfer to a future date. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method within 10 business days; processing fees are non-refundable. Complaints or grievances may be submitted to elly.resilientstrategies@gmail.com.

Partial attendance, late arrival, early departure: we cannot accept partial attendance, late arrival, or early departure. We will be departing from the dock at the agreed upon time and will only allow a 15 minute grace period (we know parking can get busy during June!). We depart and will not return until the scheduled return time, subject to weather.

Safety and enjoyment always come first. We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule any trip due to:

  • Unsafe weather or sea conditions

  • Mechanical or operational issues

If we cancel before departure:

  • You will receive a 100% refund, or

  • We hope we can reschedule this event for another date

If a trip is cut short due to unforeseen circumstances, a prorated refund will be issued based on time completed.

Day-of Schedule

  • Please schedule your drive to arrive at the Whittier Tunnel at 9:30am-9:45 am, Bear Valley to Whittier, so that you are arriving in the Whittier Harbor parking lot before 10am.

  • We will send you an exact dock location prior to our experience date. Please arrive at the boat by 10:15am.

  • Introductions, course expectations, and questions. Set up breakout groups for scenic boat ride.

  • We will depart on our 1.5-2 hour sightseeing cruise to Naked Island. This time period includes breakout groups and scenic enjoyment.

  • Enjoy a break from the boat on Naked Island for lunch and a somatic training online seminar live-streamed, hosted by Lucy Mahan, LPC-S

  • We’ll wrap up our seminar and time on the beach to make our way back to the Whittier Harbor. Final breakout groups and scenic enjoyment for the ride back!

  • We will be back to the harbor by 4:30pm and have closing comments. You will be back in time to take the 5pm tunnel to the highway.

Please plan ahead for arrival to Whittier:

  • Review tunnel timing and fees via the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel schedule, tunnel fee is $13 per vehicle (not included in registration price)

  • Parking in Whittier is an additional cost and the lots can be busy in the summer, parking cost is $11 per day per vehicle, please pay at the kiosk after parking (not included in registration price)

Missing your required tunnel time and/or arriving late may result in missing the departure and event with no refund
